子 曰：“ 不 愤［1］ 不 启， 不 悱［2］ 不 发，
举一隅不以三隅反［3］，则不复也。”
The Master said, “I do not open up the truth to
one who is not eager to get knowledge, nor help out
any one who is not anxious to explain himself. When
I have presented one corner of a subject to any one,
and he cannot from it learn the other three, I do not
repeat my lesson.”
【注释】［1］愤：憋闷，郁积。［2］悱：口欲
言而不能的样子。［3］隅：方角。物之方者，
皆有四角。反：类推。
【译文】孔子说：“教导学生，不到他心里憋闷、
急于知道的程度，不开导他；不到他想说而
说不出的程度，不启发他。举示一个角而不
