子曰：“贤哉，回也！一箪［1］食，一瓢饮，
在陋巷，人不堪其忧，回也不改其乐。贤哉，
回也！”
The Master said, “Admirable indeed was the
virtue of Hui! With a single bamboo dish of rice, a
single gourd dish of drink, and living in his mean
narrow lane, while others could not have endured
the distress, he did not allow his joy to be affected by
it. Admirable indeed was the virtue of Hui!”
【注释】［1］箪：盛饭的圆形竹器。
【译文】孔子说：“多么有贤德啊，颜回！一箪饭，
一瓢水，住在简陋的小巷子里，一般人不堪
忍受那样的忧苦，颜回却不改变他的乐观。
多么有贤德啊，颜回！”
