寝不尸，居不容。见齐衰［1］者，虽狎［2］，
必变。见冕者与瞽者，虽亵［3］，必以貌。凶
服 者 式［4］ 之。 式 负 版［5］ 者。 有 盛 馔， 必 变
色而作。迅雷风烈，必变。升车，必正立执
绥［6］。车中不内顾，不疾言，不亲指。
In bed, he did not lie like a corpse. At home,
he did not put on any formal deportment. When he
saw any one in a mourning dress, though it might
be an acquaintance, he would change countenance;
when he saw any one wearing the cap of full dress,
or a blind person, though he might be in his undress,
he would salute them in a ceremonious manner. To
any person in mourning he bowed forward to the
crossbar of his carriage; he bowed in the same way
to any one bearing the tables of population. When
he was at an entertainment where there was an
