司马牛问仁。子曰：“仁者，其言也 ［1］。”
曰：“其言也 ，斯谓之仁已乎？”子曰：“为
之难，言之得无 乎？”
Sze-ma Niu asked about perfect virtue. The
Master said, “The man of perfect virtue is cautious
and slow in his speech.” “Cautious and slow in
his speech!” said Niu; — “is this what is meant by
perfect virtue?” The Master said, “When a man feels
the difficulty of doing, can he be other than cautious
and slow in speaking?”
【注释】［1］讱（r-n）：不轻易说出，说话谨慎。
【译文】司马牛问什么是仁。孔子说：“仁德
的人，他说话是谨慎的。”司马牛说：“说
话谨慎，这就叫作仁了吗？”孔子说：“事
