asked whether he should carry immediately into
practice what he heard, and you said, ‘There are
your father and elder brothers to be consulted.’
Ch’iu asked whether he should immediately carry
into practice what he heard, and you said, ‘Carry it
immediately into practice.’ I, Ch’ih, am perplexed,
and venture to ask you for an explanation.” The
Master said, “Ch’iu is retiring and slow; therefore, I
urged him forward. Yu has more than his own share
of energy; therefore I kept him back.”
【注释】［1］兼人：胜人。
【译文】子路问：“听到就去做吗？”孔子说：
“有父兄在世，如何能不征求父兄的意见而
听到就去做呢？”冉有问：“听到就去做吗？”
孔 子 说：“ 听 到 就 去 做。” 公 西 华 说：“ 仲
由问听到就去做吗，您说‘有父兄在’，冉
有也问听到就去做吗，您说‘听到就去做’。
