子曰：“吾犹及史之阙文也，有马者借
人乘之，今亡矣夫！”
The Master said, “Even in my early days, a
historiographer would leave a blank in his text, and
he who had a horse would lend him to another to
ride. Now, alas! there are no such things.”
【译文】孔子说：“我好像看到某部史书有缺
漏的文字，原来的本子有‘有马者借人乘之’
这句话，今天看到的本子没有了。”
【解读】此章，注家多认为孔子以“有马自己
不能调良而借人乘习”为喻，喻书有阙文而
己不能定且暂缺之，有待别人定之。这样理
解于理尚通，但总觉曲而不直。不如这样理解：
孔子说：“我好像看到某部史书有缺漏的文字，
