子曰：“可与言而不与之言，失人；不
可与言而与之言，失言。知者不失人，亦不
失言。”
The Master said, “When a man may be spoken
with, not to speak to him is to err in reference to
the man. When a man may not be spoken with, to
speak to him is to err in reference to our words. The
wise err neither in regard to their man nor to their
words.”
【译文】孔子说：“可以跟他说却不跟他说，
会错失人才；不可以跟他说却跟他说，会浪
费语言。聪明的人不会错失人才，也不会浪
费语言。”
【解读】识人不可失人，失言不如不言。孔子提
