This is all that is to be remarked in them. “It may
be said of Yu-chung and 1-yi, that, while they hid
themselves in their seclusion, they gave a license to
their words; but, in their persons, they succeeded in
preserving their purity, and, in their retirement, they
acted according to the exigency of the times.” “I am
different from all these. I have no course for which
I am predetermined, and no course against which I
am predetermined.”
【注释】［1］逸民：避世隐居之人。
【译文】逸民有：伯夷、叔齐、虞仲、夷逸、朱张、
柳下惠、少连。孔子说：“不降低自己的志
向，不辱没自己的身份，这样的人是伯夷、
叔 齐 吧！” 又 说：“ 柳 下 惠、 少 连， 降 低 了
志向，辱没了身份，但是言语合乎伦理，行
为合乎思虑，也就是这样罢了。”又说：“虞
仲、夷逸，避世隐居，说话随便，能洁身自
