Mencius proceeded, “Suppose that the chief
criminal judge could not regulate the officers under
him, how would you deal with him?”
The king said, “Dismiss him.”
Mencius again said, “If within the four borders
of your kingdom there is not good government, what
is to be done?”
The king looked to the right and left, and spoke
of other matters.
【注释】［1］比（b@）：及，至，等到。反：同“返”。
［2］则：表结果，结果是。［3］已：止，指罢免。
【译文】孟子对齐宣王说：“若大王的臣子中
有一个将妻子儿女托寄给他的朋友照看，而
他到楚国游历。等到他返回来后，结果发现
妻子儿女挨饿受冻，这样，该如何办？”
齐宣王说：“抛弃他。”
（孟子）说：“如果司法官不能管理好
