occasioned by his position. How much more should
a peculiar air distinguish him whose position is in
the wide house of the world! When the prince of Lu
went to Song, he called out at the Dieze gate, and
the keeper said, ‘This is not our prince. How is it
that his voice is so like that of our prince?’ This was
occasioned by nothing but the correspondence of
their positions.”
【注释】［1］范：范邑。［2］居移气：是说所
处地位、环境能改变人的素质、气度。［3］
广居：宽大的居所，孟子以“广居”指“仁”。
［4］垤（di9）泽之门：宋国的城门。
【译文】孟子从范邑到齐国，远远看见齐王的
儿子器宇轩昂，长叹一声，说道：“所居环
境改变人的气质，奉养改变人的体质，环境
真是重要啊！不都是人的儿子吗？”
