王 孙 贾［1］ 问 曰：“ 与 其 媚 于 奥［2］， 宁
媚于灶［3］，何谓也？”子曰：“不然。获罪
于天，无所祷也。”
Wang-sun Chia asked, saying, “What is the
meaning of the saying, ‘It is better to pay court to the
furnace than to the southwest corner?’” The Master
said, “Not so. He who offends against Heaven has
none to whom he can pray. ”
【注释】［1］王孙贾：卫国大夫。［2］奥：室
之西南角叫奥，室制以奥为尊。古人认为此
处有神，地位尊贵。［3］灶：灶神。古人认
为灶神的地位低于奥神。
【译文】王孙贾问道：“与其献媚于一室之主
的奥神，宁可献媚于比他低下的灶君，这是
