子曰：“予欲无言。”子贡曰：“子如不言，
则小子何述［1］焉？”子曰：“天何言哉？四
时行焉，百物生焉，天何言哉？”
The Master said, “I would prefer not speaking.”
Tsze-kung said, “If you, Master, do not speak,
what shall we, your disciples, have to record?” The
Master said, “Does Heaven speak? The four seasons
pursue their courses, and all things are continually
being produced, but does Heaven say anything?”
【注释】［1］述：遵循。
【译文】孔子说：“我不想讲话了”。子贡说：“先
生您如果不说话，那么弟子们遵循什么呢？”
孔子说：“天说什么了？春夏秋冬四时照样
运行，百物照样生长，天说什么了？”
