孟子曰：“养生者不足以当大事，惟送
死可以当大事。”
Mencius said, “The nourishment of parents
when living is not sufficient to be accounted the
great thing. It is only in the performing their
obsequies when dead that we have what can be
considered the great thing.”
【译文】孟子说：“父母活着的时候赡养他们
称不上大事，他们去世后安葬他们才可以称
得上是大事。”
【解读】儒家认为，父母在世之时，人们自然
要去赡养他们，这是人之常情，也是孝道的
应有之义，不能算作“大事”；然而，父母
的离世却是人们生活中遭遇的重大变故，这
