their offices, and some have not done so: —that to
which those different courses all agree is simply the
keeping of their persons pure. I have heard that Yi
Yin sought an introduction to Tang by the doctrines
of Yao and Shun. I have not heard that he did so by
his knowledge of cookery. In the Instructions of Yi, it
is said, ‘Heaven destroying Jie commenced attacking
him in the palace of Mu. I commenced in Bo.’ ”

无欲之貌。［3］幡然：形容迅速的样子。［4］
觉：开悟，开导。［5］内：通“纳”，放进。
［6］《伊训》：《尚书》篇名，已佚，今本《尚
书》中该篇为伪古文。［7］造：作也。攻：
讨也。［8］牧宫：桀的宫室，代指桀自身。
［9］朕：我。先秦时期“朕”是一般的自称，
秦始皇以后成为皇帝的专用自称。载：始也。
亳：商都。
