did not know him supposed it was on account of the
flesh. Those who knew him supposed that it was
on account of the neglect of the usual ceremony.
The fact was, that Confucius wanted to go away on
occasion of some small offence, not wishing to do
so without some apparent cause. All men cannot be
expected to understand the conduct of a superior
man.”

名的政治家和思想家，以博学多才、善于辩
论著称，是稷下学宫中的著名学者之一。［2］
名：声誉。实：事功。［3］夫子：指孟子。［4］
趋：趋向，目标。［5］鲁缪公：即鲁穆公。［6］
公仪子：即公仪休。曾经当过鲁相，奉法循
礼治理鲁国。［7］王豹：卫国人，善歌者。淇：
淇水，古黄河支流。［8］绵驹：齐国人，善
歌者。［9］齐右：高唐位于齐国西部，古人
以西方为右。［10］华周、杞梁之妻善哭：华周、
