孟子曰：“好名之人，能让千乘之国；
苟非其人，箪食豆羹见于色。”
Mencius said, “A man who loves fame may be
able to decline a state of a thousand chariots; but if
he be not really the man to do such a thing, it will
appear in his countenance, in the matter of a dish of
rice or a platter of soup.”
【译文】孟子说：“喜好名声的人，能让出千
辆兵车的大国；如果不是这样的人，就是让
出一筐饭、一碗汤，不高兴的神色也会在脸
上显出。”
【解读】本章意旨有两层：其一，为人当实心
实德，当守道德之“诚”；其二，观人当从
细微之处入手，也就是朱子所说的“观人不
