章

In the Book of Poetry, it is said, “In his
deportment there is nothing wrong; he rectifies all
the people of the state.” Yes; when the ruler, as a
father, a son, and a brother, is a model, then the
people imitate him. This is what is meant by saying,
“The government of his kingdom depends on his
regulation of the family.”

【注释】［1］成教：成功教化。［2］赤子：婴儿。
［3］中（zh7ng）：中的，完全符合目的。［4］

机：机关。［5］偾（f-n）：破坏，败坏。［6］
帅：同“率”。这里有“统率”之意。［7］恕：
即儒家所谓“己所不欲，勿施于人”的“恕道”。
［8］忒（t-）：偏差，差错。

【译文】所谓治理国家必先管理好自己的家庭，
自己的家人都不能管教好而能管教好别人，
这是没有的。所以君子不出家门就能完成对
整个国家的教育：孝，是侍奉君主应有的原
