子曰：“贤者辟世，其次辟地，其次辟色，
其次辟言。”
子曰：“作者七人矣。［1］”
The Master said, “Some men of worth retire
from the world. Some retire from particular states.
Some retire because of disrespectful looks. Some
retire because of contradictory language.”
The Master said, “Those who have done this
are seven men.”
【注释】［1］作：起而避去。七人：指《微子》
篇中提到的七位逸民：伯夷、叔齐、虞仲、夷逸、
朱张、柳下惠、少连。
【译文】孔子说：“有贤德的人避开恶浊的社会，
次一等的避开混乱之地，再次一等的避开不
