有子曰：“信近于义，言可复［1］也；恭
近于礼，远耻辱也；因［2］不失其亲，亦可宗
也。”
The philosopher Yu said, “When agreements
are made according to what is right, what is spoken
can be made good. When respect is shown according
to what is proper, one keeps far from shame and
disgrace. When the parties upon whom a man leans
are proper persons to be intimate with, he can make
them his guides and masters.”
【注释】［1］复：实践、兑现。“复”的本义是“回
复”，《周易·泰卦》：“无往不复。”“言
可复”，指诺言可得以实践、履行，即朱熹
所说“践言”。［2］因：亲，亲近。汉孔安
国解曰：“因，亲也。言所亲不失其亲，亦
