子 曰：“ 巧 言、 令 色、 足 恭， 左 丘 明 耻
之，丘亦耻之。匿怨而友其人，左丘明耻之，
丘亦耻之。”
The Master said, “Fine words, an insinuating
appearance, and excessive respect; — Tso Ch’iu-
ming was ashamed of them. I also am ashamed of
them. To conceal resentment against a person, and
appear friendly with him; — Tso Ch’iu-ming was
ashamed of such conduct. I also am ashamed of it. ”
【 译 文】 孔 子 说：“ 花 言 巧 语， 伪 善 的 容 色，
过分的恭敬，左丘明以为可耻，我也以为可耻。
内心怨恨而表面上装作友好亲善，左丘明以
为可耻，我也以为可耻。”
【解读】孔子做人是真诚的，所以他耻于“巧
