子夏曰：“君子信而后劳其民，未信则
以为厉［1］己也。信而后谏，未信则以为谤己
也。”
Tsze-hsia said, “The superior man, having
obtained their confidence, may then impose labours
on his people. If he have not gained their confidence,
they will think that he is oppressing them. Having
obtained the confidence of his prince, one may then
remonstrate with him. If he have not gained his
confidence, the prince will think that he is vilifying
him.”
【注释】［1］厉：虐待。
【译文】子夏说：“君子先取得信任，然后才
能使唤百姓；如果未取得信任，他们就会以
