19.1
子张曰：“士见危致命，见得思义，祭思敬，
丧思哀，其可已矣。”
Tsze-chang said, “The scholar, trained for
public duty, seeing threatening danger, is prepared
to sacrifice his life. When the opportunity of gain
is presented to him, he thinks of righteousness.
In sacrificing, his thoughts are reverential. In
mourning, his thoughts are about the grief which he
should feel. Such a man commands our approbation
indeed.”
【译文】子张说：“士遇到危难肯献身，见到
可获得的利益能想到义，祭祀的时候能想到
虔敬，服丧的时候能想到哀伤，这就可以了。”
【解读】“士”指当时处于统治阶级底层的知
