子曰：“唯女子与小人为难养也［1］，近
之则不孙［2］，远之则怨。”
The Master said, “Of all people, girls and
servants are the most difficult to behave to. If you
are familiar with them, they lose their humility.
If you maintain a reserve towards them, they are
discontented.”
【注释】［1］女子：此女子与小人并言，当指
缺乏修养、德行差的女人。养：侍奉，对待。
［2］孙（x&n）：通“逊”，恭顺，谦逊。
【译文】孔子说：“只有缺乏修养的女人和小
人难侍奉，亲近了，她（他）就放肆无礼；
疏远了，她（他）就埋怨不止。”
