孟子曰：“君子之于物也，爱之而弗仁；
于民也，仁之而弗亲。亲亲而仁民，仁民而
爱物。”
Mencius said, “In regard to inferior creatures,
the superior man is kind to them, but not loving. In
regard to people gererally, he is loving to them, but
not affectionate. He is affectionate to his parents,
and lovingly disposed to people generally. He is
lovingly disposed to people generally, and kind to
creatures.”
【译文】孟子说：“君子对于万物，爱惜它却
不仁爱；对于百姓，仁爱他们却不像对待亲
人那样亲近他们。亲爱亲人，从而仁爱百姓；
仁爱百姓，从而爱惜万物。”
