from Qi to Teng is not short. How was it that during
all the way there and back, you never spoke to Huan
about the matters of your mission?”
Mencius replied, “There were the proper
officers who attended to them. What occasion had I
to speak to him about them?”

齐王的宠臣。辅行：副使。［2］反：同“返”。
【译文】孟子在齐国担任国卿，出使到滕国吊丧，
齐王派盖邑的长官王 做孟子的副使。王 早
晚同孟子相见，在返回齐国的路上，孟子却
从来没有与他谈起过此次吊丧的事。
公孙丑说：“您作为齐国国卿，职位不
算小了，从齐国到滕国的路程也不算近了。
但您返回途中未曾与他谈过公事，这是为什
么呢？”
孟子说：“既然他已经把所有的事情都
