apportioned to him by Heaven. What belongs by
his nature to the superior man are benevolence,
righteousness, propriety, and knowledge. These are
rooted in his heart; their growth and manifestation
are a mild harmony appearing in the countenance, a
rich fullness in the back, and the character imparted
to the four limbs. Those limbs understand to arrange
themselves, without being told.”
【注释】[1]大行:指主张行于天下。[2]睟(su#)
然:温润的样子。[3]盎:充溢,显露。
【译文】孟子说:“拥有广袤的土地、众多的百姓,
这是君子所期望的,但是他的快乐不在于此;
立于天下中央,安定四海百姓,君子对此感
到快乐,但是他的本性不在于此。君子的本
性,即使(主张)大行于天下也不会因而有
所增加,即使处于穷困也不会因而有所减损,
是由于君子的本分已经固定的缘故。君子的
