11.1
子曰：“先进于礼乐，野人［1］也 ; 后进
于礼乐，君子［2］也。如用之，则吾从先进。”
The Master said, “The men of former times, in
the matters of ceremonies and music, were rustics,
it is said, while the men of these latter times, in
ceremonies and music, are accomplished gentlemen.
If I have occasion to use those things, I follow the
men of former times.”
【注释】［1］野人：没有爵禄、身份低贱的民人。
［2］君子：这里指有地位的人。
【译文】孔子说：“先学习礼乐后做官的人，
是社会下层的人；后学习礼乐先做官的人，
是社会上层的人。如果选用人才，那我就要
选用先学习礼乐的人。”
