to a great officer. The one year’s mourning was made
to extend only to the great officers, but the three
years’ mourning extended to the Son of Heaven. In
the mourning for a father or mother, he allowed no
difference between the noble and the mean.”

【译文】孔子说：“心中没有忧愁的人，大概
只有周文王了！有王季作为父亲，有武王作
为儿子，父亲开创事业，儿子继承发扬。武
王继承太王、王季、文王的事业，穿起戎装
打下了天下，自身不失天下的显赫名声，地
位尊贵为天子，财富拥有全天下，宗庙里祭
祀着他，子孙保持着他的事业。武王晚年受
命为天子，周公成就了文王、武王的明德，
