that delight, the whole kingdom was transformed.
When Gusou was brought to find that delight, all
fathers and sons in the kingdom were established
in their respective duties. This is called great filial
piety.”

【译文】孟子说：“天下人都非常高兴地要来
归顺自己，把天下人高兴地要来归顺自己看
得如同草芥一般，只有舜是这样。不能使父
母欢心，不可以为人；不顺从父母的心意，
不可以为子。舜尽心侍奉双亲，使父亲瞽瞍
由不高兴到高兴；瞽瞍高兴了进而天下的人
受到了感化；使瞽瞍高兴了，天下父子间的
伦常规范也就确定了，这就叫作大孝。”
