to one another, ‘That looks as if our king were free
from all sickness! If he were not, how could he
enjoy this hunting?’ Their feeling thus is from no
other reason but that you cause them to have their
pleasure as you have yours. If Your Majesty now
will make pleasure a thing common to the people
and yourself, the royal sway awaits you.”
【注释】［1］庄暴：齐国大夫。［2］王：指齐
宣 王。［3］ 庶 几： 近， 差 不 多。［4］ 乐 乐
（yu-? l-）：第一个“乐”是音乐，名词用作
动词，指欣赏音乐；第二个“乐”是快乐。［5］
管籥（yu-）：古代吹奏乐器。［6］举：都，
全。蹙 （c&? -）：皱着眉头。 ：鼻梁，也
同“额”。［7］极：穷。［8］羽旄（m1o）：
用羽毛、牦牛尾装饰的旗子。
【译文】庄暴来见孟子，说：“我被召去见大王，
王告诉我他喜好音乐的事，我不知道应该如
