Confucius sighed at home, and his grandson Zi Si asked, "Are you worried about the possibility that your offspring can't inherit the mantle of your cause that would undermine our ancestors' reputation? Or do you look up to the virtue of emperor Yao and Shun, and feel ashamed of not being able to catch up?" Confucius said, "My child, you have no idea of what I strive for." Zi Si then said, "I heard that people's education and virtues are inherited by the elder generations. If their offspring go against their teachings, they are breaking the rules of filial piety. I often think about this, so I never slack at this." Confucius smiled with satisfactory and said, "Then I have nothing to worry about! If you keep pursuing good virtue from generation to generation, we will be promising!"
