The 7th Forum on Chinese Culture Opens in Peking University

The 7th Forum on Chinese Culture opened at Peking University on December 16. The theme of the forum is "Promoting Chinese Civilization and Building a Cultural Powerhouse", with three sub-topics, namely "Cross-Strait Joint Efforts for Inheritance and Development of Fine Chinese Culture", "New Path for Building a Cultural Power in the New Era" and "Cross-Strait Art Exchange". More than 150 experts and scholars from the academic, educational, cultural and artistic circles, and the press from both sides of the Taiwan Straits and Hong Kong and Macao regions participated in the forum in various forms and submitted more than 70 papers.
Liu Jieyi, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, sent a congratulatory letter for the opening of the forum, stressing that compatriots on both sides of the strait must strengthen their cultural self-confidence, resolutely oppose all kinds of "Taiwan independence" schemes, and further intensify cultural exchanges and cooperation and jointly promote the creative transformation and innovative development of fine Chinese culture, join hands to promote the integrity, innovation, and prosperity of Chinese culture, and jointly forge new brilliance of Chinese culture in the process of realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the complete reunification of the motherland.
Huang Zhixian, president of the All-China Taiwan Compatriots Association, said in a video speech that Chinese people on both sides of the strait share the same Chinese cultural genes, and no one or any power can change it. Solving the Taiwan question and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland, fundamentally speaking, shows respect for history, conforms to public opinion, reflects traditional Chinese culture, and defends the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. The compatriots on both sides of the strait are a family, and there is no insoluble problems between relatives. The Chinese culture is inclusive, and it will surely play a huge role in the process of promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland.
Liu Zhaoxuan, former Chairman of Taiwan’s "Chinese Culture Association", believes that the forum is playing an important role in the current cross-strait cultural exchanges and peaceful development. In his video speech, he expounded the contemporary value of benevolent governance in Chinese culture, and believed that the thought has universal value. He also explained its important role in national governance and global governance through an index system he has advocated for many years.
Wang Bo, Vice President of Peking University, expressed the hope that colleagues on both sides of the strait can leverage the Chinese Cultural Forum as an opportunity to carry out cooperation on diverse topics such as philosophy, art, cultural industry, and mass communication, and engage in interdisciplinary and comprehensive research and practice to promote new cooperation models and exchange mechanisms to enrich and improve the all-round knowledge system of Chinese culture, produce more high-quality new knowledge, new theories, new technologies and new results.
Due to epidemic prevention and control measures, this forum was held both online and offline, with the main venue at Peking University and 4 venues in Taipei, Kaohsiung and the suburbs of Beijing.
