Heilongjiang Province held the Beijing Winter Olympics Torch Display on January 5. The torch display event was held in Harbin. World Table Tennis Championships champion Wang Manyu and other outstanding athletes from Heilongjiang Province participated in the event. The torch will be displayed in Daqing City and Qiqihar City on January 6th and 7th respectively.
Heilongjiang Province is one of the earliest in China to carry out ice and snow sports, and it is also home to many champions of ice and snow sports. In recent years, Heilongjiang Province has been leveraging its advantages in ice and snow sports, and made great achievements in the cultivation of ice and snow sports athletes and the development of public ice and snow sports.
As an important training base for China's ice and snow sports talents, Heilongjiang Province has successively trained a large number of outstanding athletes, including Luo Zhihuan, who won the first world championship in winter sports in 1963, and Yang Yang, winner of China's first gold medal during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
As of now, 9 out of 13 winners of Winter Olympic gold medals were trained by Heilongjiang.
