Before Zigong went to take office in Xinyang (now in Henan province), he went to say farewell to Confucius. Confucius warned him, "Be diligent and cautious. Remember to be fair when rectifying the official style, and be whitehanded and honest when facing with bribery. Honesty and fair should never be changed. Pay attention to your words and deeds. Don't be stingy with your praise to others, and think twice before attacking others."
