When Confucius came to Chu state, he met a fisherman who wanted to give the newly caught fish to Confucius. Confucius didn't accept it. The fisherman said sincerely, "The weather is so hot and the market is far away. If I can't sell these fish, they will go bad. So, I think it's better to give them to the gentleman." So Confucius took the fish and thanked him again and again. After returning to his residence, he asked his disciples to clean the court immediately and sacrifice the fish to heaven. The disciples were puzzled and asked, "Why do you sacrifice the fish that the fisherman is about to throw away?" Confucius said, "It's benevolent to give food to others for worrying it would go waste. Since I accepted the gift from a benevolent man, why couldn't I use it for sacrifice?"
