When Confucius was in Song state, he got into trouble as he criticized the ruling minister Huan Tui. Confucius often give lectures and practice rules of propriety with his disciples under the tree in front of his residence. So Huan Tui sent someone to cut the tree so that the tree could fall down and kill Confucius. He also asked the soldiers to intimidate Confucius. The disciples advised Confucius to leave quickly, but Confucius said confidently, "Heaven entrusted me with the mission to promote virtue. What can Huan Tui do to me?" However, news kept coming that Huan Tui wanted to harm Confucius. So Confucius decided to leave Song state. In order to avoid being blocked by Huan Tui, Confucius went out of the city from the south gate, then change his way to Zheng state. He made an appointment with his disciples to meet outside the capital of Zheng state, and disguised himself as ordinary people.
