At the 2nd year of the reign of Duke Ai of Lu state, Confucius went back from Chen state to Wei state. Duke Ling of Wei state asked Confucius about military affairs of Chen state. Confucius know about army array, but he hated war, so he didn't want to talk about it. He said to Duke Ling, "You can ask me anything about music, rites and sacrifices. In terms of army array, I have never learned about it." What he said made Duke Ling unhappy, so he neglected Confucius the next time they met. When Confucius was talking to him, he looked up and watched the flying wild geese. Confucius went back and told his disciples, "I think we might not be able to stay here anymore. Let's just leave." So they left Wei state and went back to Chen state.
