子曰：“泰伯，其可谓至德也已矣！三
以天下让，民无得而称焉。”
The Master said, “T’ai-po may be said to
have reached the highest point of virtuous action.
Thrice he declined the kingdom, and the people in
ignorance of his motives could not express their
approbation of his conduct.”
【译文】孔子说：“泰伯，可以说是道德最高
的了！他多次把天下让给弟弟季历（文王姬
昌之父），民众找不到恰当的词语来称赞他。”
【解读】周太王生有三子，即泰伯、仲雍、季
历。传说，太王发现季历的儿子姬昌有圣德，
欲打破惯例，将君位不传给长子泰伯，而传
给三子季历，以便再传给姬昌。泰伯明白太
