Compilation of "Sixteen Medical Books Excavated from the Han Tomb in Mawangdui"Kicks Off

On December 12th, the kickoff meeting for the compilation of "Sixteen Medical Books Excavated from the Mawangdui Han Tomb" was held in Changsha, Hunan.

The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the excavation of cultural relics from the Mawangdui Han Tomb. A large number of silk books or bamboo slips related to traditional Chinese medicine were unearthed from the tomb. Medical books that record prescriptions and medicines include "Fifty-Two Disease Prescriptions", "Health Preservation Prescriptions", "Miscellaneous Treatment Prescriptions", "Fetal and Birth Records", etc. These medical books record 406 types of drugs, which are divided into plant medicine, animal medicine, instrumental medicine, mineral medicine, and test drugs, involving drug names, processing, dosage forms, dosages, shapes, and harvesting seasons. The excavation of medical books from the Han Tomb in Mawangdui has extremely important value for the study of Chinese medical history, and is a precious treasure of traditional Chinese medicine in China, with greatsignificance and influence in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.

The compilation of "Sixteen Medical Books Excavated from the Han Tomb in Mawangdui"is aimed toform a comprehensive research plan and provide systematic reference materials for future research on medical culture in Mawangdui.
