On December 9th, the Global Perspective on the Theory of Good Nature and the Seminaronthe new book Human Nature and Its Good and Evil from Ancient, Modern, Chinese and Foreign Perspectives: Centered on Mencius were successfully held at Tsinghua University.
This bookis one of the important achievements of "Research Base for Cultural Exchange and Mutual Learning between China and Foreign Countries"atthe Confucius ResearchInstitute. This book comprehensively collects the research results on the good and evil of human nature proposed by Mencius around the theory of human nature, both ancient and modern, both at home and abroad. However, it differs from a simple compilation of materials. While compiling the views of representative scholars and their human nature theories, it also analyzes and comments on them, which is conducive to deepening and enriching the understanding and research of Mencius' theory of “human natureis good”and even his general ideas about human nature.
At the seminar, the attending experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on Confucian theories of human nature and temperament, represented by Meng and Xun, the relationship between human nature and virtue, and research on Western theories of human goodness. These discussions are of great significance for further advancing the academic research on Mencius' theory of human goodness and reflecting on and evaluating the value of Confucianism in contemporary society.
