The Collection of Confucian Stele Inscriptions and Documents in Qufu Won the Special Prize for Excellent Ancient Books in East China

On November 7th, the 25th (2022) East China Ancient Books Evaluation Conference was held in Yangzhou. The book Qufu Confucian Stele Inscription Literature Integration, edited by Yang Chaoming, former director of the Confucius Research Institute, and more than 30 scholars from the Confucius Institute, won thespecial prize.

This book is the final result of the National Social Science Foundation's key project "Integration of Confucian Stone Carvings in Qufu, China" promoted by the Confucius Institute, and is included in the library of Nishan World Confucian Center/China Confucius Foundation. It tookten years for the compilers to record nearly 700 important inscriptions in Qufu, and its appendix includes more than 20 titles and research articles.With a total of more than 2 million words, The book covers all the 90 local inscriptions selectedin the First Batch of Ancient Famous Steles and Carved Cultural Relics List published by the National CulturalHeritage Administration.

The bookcombines various passed-down documents to comprehensively and thoroughlyorganize and annotate the Confucian valuable inscriptions in the Qufu area. It also conducts a comprehensive review of previous writings, and examines the value and significance of the inscriptions in the historical context. It explores the relationship between Confucianism and ancient China, and is an important achievement by of the Confucius Research Institutein itsresearch on the connotation of Chinese civilization.
