knowledge. Both these are virtues belonging to
the nature, and this is the way by which a union
is effected of the external and internal. Therefore,
whenever he — the entirely sincere man — employs
them, — that is, these virtues, their action will be
right.
【注释】［1］自成：自我完善。［2］自道（d2o）：
自我引导。道：同“导”。［3］知：同“智”。
［4］措：实施。
【译文】真诚是自我完善，道是自我引导。真
诚是事物的终结和开始，不真诚就没有万物。
因此君子以真诚为贵。真诚并不是自我完善
就够了，而是要完善万物。自我完善是仁，
完善万物是智，这是出于本性的德行，是外
物与自身合为一体的准则。所以，随时施行
都是适宜的。
