Recently, 7 international students from Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Equatorial Guinea experienced the paper-cutting in Qingdao to enjoy the charm of Chinese intangible culture.

As a Chinese traditional hollow-carved art, paper-cutting was listed as one of the world intangible culture heritage in 2010. Chen Xuemei, inheritor of Qingdao paper-cutting intangible cultural heritage, introduced the history and techniques of paper-cutting.

Chen Xuemei taught the students several simple styles of paper-cutting. In less than a minute, Chen flexibly used scissors to complete a paper-cut of "Fu" character. Yu Kiwha from South Korea was stunned by the speed of Chen’s paper-cutting, “It’s amazing! I like “Fu” character. It conveys a good message.”

"Let me teach you a simple one. It only takes two cuts." Under the guidance and help of teachers and community paper-cutting enthusiasts, international students completed their paper-cutting works.

When international students carefully unfold the red paper, it was a red Chinese knot. This Chinese knot not only built a bridge of cultural exchange, but also enhanced foreign friends' understanding and recognition of traditional Chinese culture.

Chen Xuemei prepared a special gift for each student -- the 12 zodiac paper-cut works.

“I like this paper-cutting work,” said Nancy from Equatorial Guinea, “ I will cherish it.”

Pattarawadee from Thailand got a rabbit paper-cut work, “This year marks the Year of Rabbit. I’m happy to have this cute rabbit work!”
