Recently, the “Friendly Shandong, Remarkable Shandong ‘I love you’” activity invited 7 international students from the College of International Education of Qingdao University from Russia, South Korea and other countries to visit the century-old Chunhelou Restaurant to taste the delicious Shandong cusine and enjoy Chineese intangible cultural heritage.

Shen Ting, the general manager of Chunhelou Restaurant, introduced to the international students: “Used to be imperial cuisine, Shandong Cuisine has attracted several celebrities such as Li Hongzhang, Wang Jinmei, Kang Youwei to have a taste of authentic Shandong cuisine.” As a specialty of Chunhelou Restaurant, crispy chicken is almost a must try for all guests.

“Why is crispy chicken so popular?” aninternational student asked in a curious mood. It has strict requirements such as chicken selection, sophisticated process and color locking, Shen explained. Moreover, this dish was selected as the Shandong Provincial Intangible Culture Heritage in 2016.

International students then immersed themselves into the delicacies such as sweet and sour pork, burnt meatballs, prawn roasted cabbage, with their hands constantly taking pictures.

Polina from Russia said: “I am so glad to eat in a restaurant with a history of more than 100 years, and it is the first time I have eaten authentic Shandong cuisine. The dishes are so impressive, especially the crispy chicken.”

“This tour is so incredible! Besides crispy chicken, I also like steamed beef dumplings and prawn roasted cabbage. They are so fresh and delicious!” Nancy, an international student from Equatorial Guinea, said she would take her friends to visit Chunhelou Restaurant again in the future.
