Exhibition on Figure Painting Works in the Ming and Qing Dynasties Held in Shanghai

Organized and collected by the Shanghai AcademyofChinese Painting, “A Wondrous World Created with Heart,”anexhibition onfigure painting works in the Ming and QingDynasties was held in Shanghai Cheng Shifa Art Museum.

The exhibition was divided into three sections, including “Chen Yupu Portraits”, “Qing Dynasty Portraits”, “Dongshan Traditional Stringed and Woodwind Instruments”, “AGentlemanWearing Flowers and Dragging AStick”and other works. More than 40carefully-selectedpieces from the museum’s collectionwere on display, portraitingnoblescholars, ladiesandother characters, all byfamous artists such as Chen Hongshou, Ding Yunpeng, Zeng Jing, Huang Shen, Ren Bonian. Somepieces had been rarely shown and some were exhibited for the first time,presentingthe charm of traditional culture to the audience.

According to the organizer, the exhibition is not only a display offigure paintings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but also an exploration intothe figure paintinghistoryand its influence on later generations, especially on the creation of contemporaryfigure paintings.The humanistic spirit embodied in these figure paintings may bring distinctivevisual enjoyment and spiritual experience to the audience.
