NLC exhibition “Four Great Discoveries of Ancient Chinese Documents in the Early 20th Century”opens

The exhibition “Four Great Discoveries of Ancient Chinese Documents in the Early 20th Century”was recently unveiledto the public at the National Libraryof China(NLC). Throughthe precious exhibits, visitors embark on a journey tracing the origin of Chinese history and culture.
The “four great discoveries”of ancient Chinese documents have long been housed separately by several institutions and museums. This exhibition brings them together for the first time, with an exhibition area of nearly 3,000 square meters, showcasing a total of 382 pieces of precious cultural relics documents in 249 kinds. NLC collections are featured including the largest collection of oracle bones with the most words and one of the earliest surviving copies of the Dunhuang Manuscripts. The exhibition delineates the binding styles of the Manuscripts which serve as an inspiration for the majority of ancient Chinese paper books. Visitors have a chance to feast their eyes.
Ancient books and documents are vital carriers of history and culture and play an indispensable role in cultural inheritance. Going forward, the NLC will enhance the interaction with the audience through such means as live-streaming andvirtualexhibitions.Furthermore, VR technology will beemployedto tell the story of the exhibitsand breathe new life into the ancient texts.
