子游为武城［1］宰。子曰：“女得人焉尔
乎？”曰：“有澹台灭明［2］者，行不由径，
非公事，未尝至于偃之室也。”
Tsze-yu being governor of Wu-ch’ang, the
Master said to him, “Have you got good men there?”
He answered, “There is Tan-t’ai Mieh-ming, who
never in walking takes a short cut, and never comes
to my office, excepting on public business.”
【注释】［1］武城：鲁国城邑，地处山东费县
西 南。［2］ 澹（t1n） 台 灭 明： 复 姓 澹 台，
字子羽，鲁国武城人，孔子弟子。
【译文】子游做武城邑宰。孔子说：“你在此
地得到人才了吗？”子游回答说：“有个叫
澹台灭明的人，走路不抄小道，不是公事，
