Taishan Scholars Workshop & Seminar on “Mutual Learning Between Chinese and Western Civilizations and Dialectics” Kicks Off

From November 18 to 19, the Taishan ScholarsWorkshop &seminar on “mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizationsand dialectics”were held in Confucius Institute.

The seminar lasted for two days during which time the participants, starting from boosting the mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations, centered their wide-ranging discussions around the dialectics, a core theme in the comparison of Sino-western civilization, exploring the common problem consciousness and explanation path between the civilizations. The topics discussed include the issue of honoring merit and virtue in the local emperor temple system, the dialectical development of Liu Xianxin’s philosophy, and modern research on “Book Of Music”; It also includes Aristotle’s functional argument and the highest good, Novalis’self and nature, Rousseau’s concept of self-esteem, Grotius’concept of sovereignty, Weber’s legal rationalization, and so on.

During the seminar, the participants visited the exhibition of Great Indeed is Confucius in Confucius Institute, which helped them to have a further understanding of the life of Confucius and Confucianism, as well as the significance of promoting excellent ideas of traditional culture and deepening cultural exchanges between China and the West in the new era.
