Peitian village in southeast China's Fujian Province, an ancient village featuring well-preserved folk dwellings of the Hakka people, has been shrouded in mist and took on a tranquil beauty after recent spring rain.
The ancient village, located in Xuanhe township, Liancheng county, Longyan city, Fujian Province, boasts of 70,000 square meters of typical dwellings of the Hakka people that date back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Hakka people are a group of northern Chinese who migrated to south China as early as in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420) and retained their unique lifestyle and customs.
In recent years, Peitian village adopted measures suited to local conditions to preserve the original features of the ancient houses while protecting and renovating them to boost the development of the local cultural tourism industry.
The village has built a number of exhibition facilities to showcase to visitors the traditional clothing of the Hakka children, farm tools, history of grain production, and family traditions, among other aspects of the life of the local Hakka people.
