Fan Yugang: The modern expression of excellent traditional culture has become a trend

Date:2022-09-30

The 2022 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and The Eighth Nishan Forum on World Civilizations was held in Qufu from September 26 to 28. More than 800 experts and scholars from 22 countries and regions participated in the forums, interviews, and dialogues at the event, online or offline. They had discussions on the theme “diversity of human civilization and values shared by humanity,” contributing the “Nishan wisdom” to the development of human civilization.

According to Fan Yugang, the modern expression of excellent traditional culture has become a trend, which is manifested by many examples in recent years, ranging from the extremely popular “scrambling in the Palace Museum,” the long queues in front of museums, trendy creative cultural products, the entry of traditional Chinese operas into campuses, lectures on intangible cultural heritage, as well as the application of traditional cultural resources in fantasies, legends of fairies, and time travel-based online literature, to the adaption of classics to movies and online games, and The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting on the CCTV stage.

A significant conclusion was made in the report at the 19th National Congress of the CPC: socialism with Chinese characteristics was entering a new era, and China was increasingly closer to the center of the international arena. What roles should literature and art play in the new era characterized by the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the new glories in Chinese culture? What mission should be placed on literature and art as the journey of the 2nd centenary goal kicks off towards prosperity shared by all the Chinese people, in particular in terms of their spiritual life? The focus of these questions is shifting towards this: absorbing the power of traditional Chinese culture to contribute special wisdom to all people in the world as a response to the “questions about the world.”
